I can’t believe it’s been one month since Legacy Youth Zone officially opened.
It has been absolutely amazing to see so many young people come through our doors in this time – we now have 3,500 members which is not far off our target for the first year!
I just wanted to take this opportunity to say a huge thank-you to absolutely everyone that has made this all possible. From our wonderful funders, to our incredible young people and their families – we wouldn’t be able to start creating our Legacy with you!
As well as meeting so many inspiring young people, the biggest perk of my job is leading the most amazing staff team you could ever wish to work with. When I’ve spoken previously, I stressed the importance of ensuring we have the right people at Legacy who are passionate about giving young people somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to.
I cannot tell you just how true that is of this brilliant team – who we call the #greenmachine. Every session is buzzing with energy, fun and excitement and that is because of both staff and young people.
We have already had some amazing feedback from young people and parents. We want Legacy to be a second home to Croydon’s young people and already it has become just this. Take a look at some of the comments we’ve had below:
“You are doing a great job. My children love the facilities. My son attended the junior session and my daughter and niece attended the senior session.”
“This is so inspiring guys. Well done and congratulations on this outstanding achievement.”
And before I leave you… if you have checked our social media channels recently, you will have seen that I will soon be undertaking a monumental cycling challenge!
A couple of things you may not know is that 1 – Legacy Youth Zone is part of a network of Youth Zones developed by the charity OnSide Youth Zones and 2- Legacy Youth Zone is a charity – without the support of our partners, including the local Council and local businesses, as well as the Croydon community, we would not be able to offer young people so many things to do for just 50p.
So to boost that even further, I’m joining a number of others cycling to every Youth Zone in the OnSide network (13 in total plus one that is under construction!), starting in Carlisle and finishing here in Croydon which adds up to 500 miles.
I’ve been training for just over a year now and I can’t wait to get in the saddle. Before I do, though, it would mean the world to me if you could support me. You can do that by clicking here.
Every penny raised will go into providing young people with the very best facilities, activities and opportunities here at Legacy.
