March saw a national lockdown impacting millions of young people and their families across the UK, lasting four months and in that time Legacy Youth Zone used this as an opportunity to help the local community by giving out food parcels to families of members and non-members.
We launched email@example.com for people to reach out to us if they needed someone to talk to but also if they were in need of urgent food parcels. In collaboration with City Harvest with support from Crystal Palace, and also Fareshare, we have been able to give out over 7000 food meals to young people and their families to help during these unprecedented times.
The food parcels given have been able to support families of our members, families with pregnant mothers as well as many individuals who have been unable to food shop in isolation due to health conditions, individuals who are living in supported accommodation or hostels, elderly parents, schools and local youth clubs and centres such as the Croydon Voluntary Action.
We are incredibly proud to have been able to help so many different people during this time with the amazing Green Team members who came to help during the lockdown.
In addition to the food parcels, thanks to one of our supporters, we were able to give out 45 laptops and internet provision to some of our members who were in need of resources to complete their online schoolwork.
